On November 14th, the Florida Trucking Association in collaboration with the Florida Highway Patrol, and the US Border Patrol facilitated a Joint Commercial Vehicle Inspection at the I-95 Southbound Weigh Station in Palm Coast, FL.
Cary Watkins of Moments Notice and member of the FTA Safety Management Committee along with Justin Prowant of Moments Notice worked with the FTA, FHP Troopers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers to provide a complimentary inspection to commercial vehicles. There was a total of 9 teams, and in less than 5 hours, over 160 trucks and drivers were inspected, and according to the FHP, only 9 violations that resulted in an out of service order.
The FHPCVE had there new mobile break inspection trailer on-site, and the US Border Patrol brought out a K9 unit to search for contraband during the days activity. FHP found the event to be very productive and informative. These events provide a great opportunity to communicate, inform and educate carriers and drivers alike. The FTA and the FHP conduct several of these inspections across the State of Florida throughout the calendar year.
